last day before 50

My Darling Daughter took me out on thursday night to a lovely dinner at the portland city grill....very fancy....then we went to a wine bar in sellwood ....just the thing for me ...all the table bases were old cast iron treadle sewing machine stands !!!! there was great music ...a band called whiskey puppy...at her house I was treated to a gorgeous, tasty, and low carb....version of key lime pie.....see how cute she made it.....the next morning  we walked ( she would rather I had been able to go a bit faster ) up Mt Tabor....gosh I need to be in better shape if I want to be an active 50 year old lady....but it sure was beautiful .....and then we went to a yarn shop...Yarnia....and an art store....a most wonderful time....

happy halloween everybody and this is the last day I will be under 50 years of age.....you are right behide me...you know who you are......Posted by Picasa

will political ads end soon????

I bought this rotary cutter at the quilt show last weekend ....it is very nice well worth the money...it is easier on the wrist and is nice as to use free form as well
I also bought this polish for the acrylic sewing table extention I own....probably car wax or something...but it does make the surface much more "slick"
I am very happy with this piece......just needs a bit of finishing
I am not at all happy with this.....it started as an ode to queen anne's lace but has ended up being a bit insipid.........still working on it....hum.........

Yesterday after the quilt show I drove down the valley to the Clackamas County Fair Grounds. Folks were there setting up for the "Oregon Flock and Fiber Show". We have had such rain this last week it is just great that the sun is coming out for this event as much of it is outside. There was lots of activity as the booths were arranged and in the barn all the stock settled and beautified. I have wanted to attend this show so I was glad to see it even in the set up stage.

I was there to meet a man from Montana who wanted to look at the spinning wheel I had for sale. I enjoyed talking to him and hearing a bit about his life. He became disabled as a Marine and has found a great love for fiber through his rehabilitation activities. He spins, knits wonderful viking warrior hats, and is starting a herd of Icelandic sheep, as well as raising four kids with his wife. He says his marine buddies are sceptical ( I'll leave the actual wording of how that was said up to you ) until they see what he makes. I guess viking warrior hats make it manly. He bought the spinning wheel hope he likes it ........

Then I drove down through Mt. Angel where I stopped for a stroll through the graveyard. It was such a gorgeous day.

inspirational day

I went to the BIG QUILT SHOW...at least for portland oregon....... I wandered the quilts ....wonderful......saw things that were incredible and inspiring....saw quilts that were made by people I KNOW.....and sat in on a panel discussion run by the local SAQA association....the panel was made up of 3 quilters from oregon one of whom I have met before ....http://www.gericondesigns.com/weblog/, and http://www.andsewitgoes.blogspot.com/ and Jill Hoddick ( I don't have a blog for her) they did an excellent job of fielding questions .....which were presented by the co-reps for our SAQA area Georgia French and Laura Jaszkowski.......I was too chicken to ask the question I wanted the panel to consider but finally at the end someone asked MY question......"What influence has the WWW had on your road to art quilting" ..... I listen to audio books all the time as I drive and I had a circuitous drive back home and I kept loosing my place in the book because my mind kept wandering back to the discussion of MAKING ART QUILTS....good job panelists and questioners.....it is good to make folks think.......OH .....and be inspiring
